Handi-Craft Company Recalls 23,000 Bottles of Natural Bottle and Dish Soap

When parents invest in products designed to keep their children safe, they do so with the expectation that those products will actually work. Unfortunately, that’s not always to case. For example, Handi-Craft just issued a recall of “23,000 bottles of Dr. Brown’s Natural Bottle & Dish Soap” because it might contain bacteria that is harmful to children. According to the recall notice, exposure to the harmful bacteria “poses a risk of respiratory and other infections in immunocompromised individuals.”

Handi-Craft itself is based in St. Louis, Missouri, and is the “company behind the Dr. Brown's Natural Flow® Baby Bottles.” While it’s great that the company is taking steps to ensure families don’t end up with the potentially harmful product, how can parents tell if they have one of the recalled bottles of dish soap? Well, for starters, the product was produced in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and was advertised as being made from “100% plant-based ingredients.” Additionally, the recall covers the following lot codes:

  • B4062216

  • B3063016

  • B3071916

  • B3072016

  • B6081016

  • B2020317

  • B1020417

For now, Handi-Craft is urging consumers to “stop using the soap,” and are advising parents who have already cleaned bottles and dishes with the soap to boil or sanitize the dishes in their dishwashers. To make the recall easier on consumers, the company is offering to replace their products with non-contaminated soap. To learn more about the recall, you can call “877-962-2525 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
