A college student was convinced she was going crazy when her clothes started to go missing in her University of North Carolina at Greensboro apartment.  She was also hearing strange noises coming from her bedroom closet, and at first, thought the place was haunted.  It turns out, a ghost had not taken residency in her room – the reality was much more terrifying.A man was hiding in her closet, stealing her clothes.“I’ve been having pieces of clothes [go] missing. Like shirts and pants,” a junior identified only by her first name, Maddie, said.  She and her female roommate also found handprints on their bathroom wall and mirror.“I just hear rattling in my closet.  It sounded like a raccoon in my closet,” Maddie added. “I’m like, ‘Who’s there?’  And somebody answers me.  He’s like, ‘Oh, my name is Drew.’  She then recalls asking, “Before I open the door – are you gonna do anything to me? Are you gonna do anything?  And he’s like no, no, no.  I could feel him starting to push the door open, so I was like I guess I have to open the door.”

The college student continued, “I open the door and he’s in there, wearing all of my clothes.  My socks.  My shoes.  And he has a book bag full of my clothes.”Maddie tried making an emergency call on her Apple watch but couldn’t get it to work.  So, called her boyfriend, while the assailant, Andrew Swofford, 30, stood in front of her, begging her not to call the police.She kept Swofford distracted for ten minutes by continuing to talk to him until help arrived.  “He was telling me everything about his life and basically how he got in my closet,” she said.He tries on my hat,” she added. “He goes in the bathroom and looks in the mirror and then is like, ‘You’re really pretty.  Can I give you a hug?  But he never touched me.”Maddie’s boyfriend showed up and Andrew fled.  He was arrested at a gas station near the complex.  The women do not know how the man entered her apartment.  The roommates keep their doors locked at all times and didn’t notice any damage to the exterior.Oddly enough, however, this is not the first time the two women discovered men inside their home.  Just a few months ago, on December 19, 2018, two men were found inside their living room.  They informed the leasing office and the locks were changed, but a police report was not filed.The property management company, Burkely Communities, is reportedly going through all of the details in an attempt to find out how this happened.  But the two girls will not stick around.  They are planning to leave their apartment after the strange encounters.“Last night I did not feel safe [so] I slept with my roommate in her bed,” Maddie said. “I can’t stay here.  My closet, it stinks.  Every time I go in [my room], there’s a bad vibe.  I’m just ready to leave.”Swofford was jailed in Guilford County under a $26,000 bond.  He faces a total of fourteen felony charges, including larceny and identity theft.
