Who doesn't like snacking on a handful of Goldfish crackers? Since their creation, they've managed to become a snack-time favorite for children across the country. Unfortunately, the beloved snack cracker is included in a new voluntary recall. Earlier this week, Pepperidge Farm voluntarily recalled four varieties of Goldfish crackers over salmonella concerns.

According to the recall notice, “an ingredient supplier notified Pepperidge Farm that a whey powder used in the crackers' seasoning might be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.” Since being alerted to the issue, the company has begun notifying customers, instructing them to either discard or return the affected products for a refund. Additionally, Pepperidge Farm released “a detailed chart" that outlines sell-by dates and package codes for all of the potentially affected products. In total, “18 variations in product sizes with varying sell-by dates” are included in the recall. The recalled flavors include:

• Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar

• Flavor Blasted Sour Cream & Onion

• Goldfish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar

• Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel

Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported, though it's “unclear at the moment whether an investigation will be conducted." For now, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers to keep an eye out for salmonella poisoning symptoms, which may include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps and vomiting. Typically, symptoms can begin showing up between six and 48 hours after consuming a contaminated product.
