Walmart shoppers, beware. Earlier this week the retailer issued a recall for a variety of Walmart 'Great Value' brand meat products over concerns they may be contaminated with salmonella. According to the recall notice, more than 6,400 pounds of meat products are affected, including ready-to-eat pork sausage patties and turkey sausage patty products. All the products were produced between April 19 and May 9, 2019, and were shipped to Walmart stores across the county. What are the specific products included in the recall, though? Well, according to the notice and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS), the recalled products include the following:
  • Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties with a use-by date of 10/16/19

  • Great Value Fully Cooked Original Breakfast Turkey Patties with a use-by date of 10/24/19

  • Family Size Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties with a use-by date of 11/03/19

All of the recalled packages are labeled with 'EST. M2206T or P-2260T.' Fortunately, Walmart and the USDA have yet to receive reports of consumers experiencing adverse reactions from consuming the products. Despite that, health officials are advising consumers to avoid eating the potentially contaminated products. After all, salmonella can cause serious illnesses in those it infects. According to the CDC, it's responsible for 450 deaths in the United States each year.
